Headwaters is developing the next stage of its high-school program: a small learning community where teenagers can deepen their academic work, explore their interests, and take increasing ownership of their education.
Our approach grows from the school we already know: close relationships with teachers, meaningful projects, time in nature, and learning connected to the wider community.
Growing independence, steady support
Our high-school planning connects a four-year curriculum rotation with deeper work in literature and writing, science, and history. Teacher-guided learning, independent work, and meaningful projects give students different ways to engage with that work. Students will be encouraged to read closely, write clearly, reason through problems, and carry meaningful work through to completion.
As students grow, our aim is to help them explore where their interests might lead—with adults who know their work and can help them take the next step.

Headwaters is a secular, nature-based school serving Aurora, the Fox Valley, and surrounding communities. We are building a high-school pathway for families seeking a personal learning environment with room for curiosity, academic challenge, and connection.
We are now welcoming inquiries for 2027–28 as planning continues. More details about the program and enrollment will be shared as they are confirmed.
